Gads. My oldest is resisting escorting her brother to a park only five houses away; she needs my cell phone and encouragement to get her out the door, a time limit in place to assure her that I'll come looking for her soon. Just 30 minutes, I tell her; I'm sure my son will be bored by then with the lack of challenge and will want to head back home.
I hate this. I hate what the media has done to us, made my kids afraid of doing what should be normal things like going to nearby public park. I hate that media has overstimulated my kids so that running and jumping and swinging offer nothing in the way of amusement.
Going to have to shut it off altogether, going to have to reset my worldview and the worldview my kids are adopting.
Maybe even make our own media, start podcasting kidstuff and local stuff.
