It's a dog's life in Iran

Dachshund ( picture courtesy of freefoto.com)"I demand the judiciary arrest all dogs with long, medium or short legs - together with their long-legged owners." (Iranian Cleric Gholamreza Hassani)

Dogs are apparently un-Islamic. And for some arcane reason, short-legged dogs, like the one on the right, are very very un-Islamic indeed. Bad doggie!

I am seriously trying to understand the rationale for being so against short-legged dogs. Wait a minute... No, it can't be. Forget it.

To laugh or to cry

A friend sent me a link to Computer Stupidities, a site full of real-life examples of stupid computer errors, and the people who commit them.

One example:

  • Customer: "Hi, I was wondering if you could fix my laptop. It's under warranty."
  • Tech Support: "What seems to be the trouble with it?"
  • Customer: "My wife got mad and threw it in the pool."

Ah, good luck mate. How about a new wife instead?

    Many if's

"I think there may well be a vast coalition if we continue to play our cards right; if we get a U.N. Security Council resolution, if we seriously try to implement it, and if Saddam doesn't comply." (Ivo Daalder, former adviser  to the US National Security Council, to Salon)

    Quote of the Day

"In some respects, science has far surpassed religion in delivering awe. How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.'" (Carl Sagan, 1994)
