War on Terror in Courts
The war on terror has reached the legal system, but not only in the form of detained terrorist suspects.
In August, relatives of victims of the 9/11 attacks sued a number of Islamic organizations and individuals, accusing them of financing the Al Qaeda network. The trillion-dollar lawsuits, which targets incude members of the Saudi royal family, are designed to bankrupt terrorism, or, rather, their supporters.
Less than a week later, a Saudi lawyer announced his plan to sue the US Government over unlawful arrests of many Saudi nationals who were 'wrongly accused' of terror links after 9/11.
Recently, Indonesian cleric and lawyer Abu Bakar Bashir sued Time magazine over allegations that he is associated with terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah and, by extension, Al Qaeda. Time stands by the accusations. Today, Indonesian police has ordered the arrest of Abu Bakar Bashir, or called him in for questioning, depending on which news source you want to believe.
