'How strange is the lot of us mortals!'

The Ubiquitous Mr. George sent me a link to an excellent essay by Albert Einstein: The world as I see it. Recommended.

Cosmic rays and climate change

"The discrepancy in temperatures has led some scientists to argue that the case for human-induced climate change is weak, because our influence should presumably show a uniform temperature rise from the surface up through the atmosphere." (BBC News)

My take: the argument that the oberved increase in surface temperature is human made was never as strong as some voices claimed. Now it may be weakened further. Time will tell.

Snow!

No way around it. Snow on the ground when I woke up this morning. Winter coming fast, and I am not looking forward to this.

Boris Yeltsin

His Own Weight in Brandy

Former Russian President Boris Jeltsin again makes headlines related to alcohol, but now in a more positive way. On a visit to a distilliery in Armenia he received his own weight in Brandy (130Kg!). A vintage Brandy was also opened for his honour, but "the 71-year-old ex-president is reported to have drunk very little."

I admit some surprise, but can only say: 'Na Zdorovye! To your good health!'
