Sniper Taken
The wanted suspect John Allen Muhammad (42) and his stepson John Malvo (17) have been arrested in Maryland, hopefully bringing an end to the sniper who has terrorised the area and killed 10 people. A rifle was allegedly found in the car.
Is it or is it nor significant that the suspect has converted to Islam?

Media Insensitivity and 'Toons
 I'm a massive 'toon and comix fan, and I always like learning about new artists. Robert's Virtual Soapbox directed me to the toons and blog of Mikhaela Reid. Have a look!
Mikhaela's commentary about the insensitivity of the media related to the hate murder of transgender teenager Gwen Araujo reminded me about Wanda in Neil Gaiman's brilliant comic A Game of You (picture right). If you haven't read it, you definately should. And then you'll understand what I mean.

Men Wanted in Sniper Case
"The men are John Allen Williams, who is also known as Mohammed Williams, and John Lee Malvo, according to law enforcement sources. The sources said the men were not suspects, but authorities wanted to speak with them." (CNN)
...and a home searched on the other end of the country. This case gets more and more weird...

What is Your Political Orientation? 
Sometimes political orientation is described with a left-right axis only, which is obviously inadequate as it tends to associate Gandhi and Stalin, and make Pol Pot a radical and Hitler a conservative.
This is a good, short test that asks you a number of questions and places you on a two-dimensional axis. Take the test here.
I took the test and got the following result:
Economic Left/Right: -1.12
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -6.21
That is, centrist with a slight leftist bent, strongly libertarian.

Hundreds Held Hostage in Moscow Theatre
 "Gunmen identifying themselves as Chechens took several hundred hostages inside a Moscow theater Wednesday night, threatening to kill some of the hostages and telling police they had mined portions of the building." (CNN)
This may well be one of the most scary developments in the Chechen war for years. This will surely not make the Russians less determined to solve the problems through force and brutality.
