Burial Box Damaged

The burial box, or ossuary, that some scholars maintain may have been used to bury James, the brother of Jesus, has been damaged under transportation to Canada. The extent of the damage is not yet known.

This blog wrote about this find some time ago.

A Deeper Look at Artworks

Combining infrared photography and sophisticated computer technology allows the audience to look into the techniques of the great artists from the past for the first time. The National Gallery in London has opened an Underdrawings exhibition, showing off the preparatory work artists had undergone before painting their famous works. Artists often made sketches in charcoal before applying paint. The technique also uncovers when artists had changed their opinions on composition, giving us a unique glimpse of their thinking.

The picture on the right is the underdrawing of Raphael's The Madonna and Child with the Infant Baptist.

— Bin Laden Will Fake

A web page associated with Al Qaeda claims the will of Bin Laden, which was published by an Arab London-based newspaper last week, is false.

I wrote about this alleged will earlier.

It is hard to avoid this conclusion: If Bin Laden is dead, his Al Quada assoiates does not want people to know about it. If he is alive, Bin Laden himself doesn't want people to know that, either.

Communism is a Religion

Many have pointed out the parallels between Christianity and Communism. While communism is atheistic, it has much more in common with religions than with secular humanism.

Communism has its prophets like Marx (picture) and Lenin, its creeds, its holy books, its saints, and it is as ruthless in persecuting its enemies as the Catholic Inquisition.

Daniel G. Jennings argues, in his article on the Secular Web, that the communist dictatures is an example of what happens when religious dogma is ruling a society.

Military Training for Journalists

"As a further sign of preparations for possible military action in Iraq, the Pentagon is planning special training for journalists who may be reporting on the conflict if it happens." (BBC)

I see the practical arguments for such training, and frankly there are enough journalists who will benefit from a bit of exercise. However, am I the only one having concerns about the journalistic integrity issues raised by this programme?

Judge OKs Microsoft/DOJ Settlement

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly did in her much-expected judgment OK most of the provisions in the antitrust settlement between Microsoft and the Department of Justice. The stock market saw the judgment as positive for Microsoft.
