Tight Race
The full House of Representatives, 43 seats in the Senate and 36 governors are up for grabs as the US midterm election is starting.
This election will to a large degree decide whether President Bush can gain majority for his policies in the Congress.
The 'rest of the world' hopes eagerly that the result stumps Bush, but it is at any rate unlikely the vote will have any influence on e.g. the Iraq question. Voters should perhaps look at the total lack of a plan for economic recovery in the sitting administration.

Early Elections in Israel
Arial Sharon gives up holding his coalition government together, and accepts Binyamin Netanyahu's (picture) conditions for accepting a post as foreign minister: early elections.
Sharon had tried getting support for his government from right-wing parties after Labour left, but found the conditions they set to be unacceptable.
Israel's securtiy situation and economic situation alike are precarious, and Sharon takes a big gamble by calling for early elections.

They Want Your Spam
The Federal Trace Commission (FTC) receives around 70,000 forwarded pieces of spam -- unsolicited and mostly unwanted email ads -- every day. according to Wired. So what do they do with it? They surely haven't come close to putting an end to the problem. Yet, they still want you to forward spam, just make sure to include the full headers.

Amnesty Accuses Israel of War Crimes
A new report from the human rights group Amnesty International is a harsh condemnation of the conduct of the Israeli Defence Forces in the occupied territories. The report documents unlawful killings, the blocking of ambulances, denial of life-saving treatment, unnecessary destruction, collective punishment and other crimes of war and crimes against humanity.
The IDF's 'defence' seems to be that two wrongs make one right.

Women with Batons, Women with Decks
Two male-dominated bastions of music is at the same time being challenged, at the opposite sides of the musical spectrum, as The Guardian reports.
Marin Alsop recently became the first female primary conductor ever of a major symphony orchestra, as she took over Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Perhaps more surprisngly, a much newer musical genre, club music, is also male dominated. Female DJs are few and far between. A new course for female DJs in Britain is set to change that.

— Jemen Militants Killed by US Missile
According to CNN, the six Islamic militants who died when the car they drove exploded in Jemen on Monday were killed by a US missile. Among the killed were Abu Ali, who is allaged to have been the senior Al Qaeda leader responsible for the October 2000 attack on USS Cole (picture).
CNN's sources say that the missile killing the six was a Hellfire launched from an unmanned drone operated by the CIA.
Provided this is correct, it is a significant victory for the much-maligned CIA. I doubt Jemeni authorities will make any notable waves about this, even though it is an illicit assasination in their territory.
