Attack of the Killer Squirrels "Householders in Knutsford, Cheshire, are being plagued by the unlikeliest of foes - a vicious grey squirrel with a penchant for human flesh." Al Qaeda Takes Responsibility for Bali Bombing Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the deadly October 12 bomb on Bali on its web site. CNN translates the message on the web site to say: "By attempting to strike a U.S. plane in Saudi Arabia and by bombing a Jewish synagogue in Tunisia, destroying two ships in Yemen, attacking the Fialka base in Kuwait, and bombing nightclubs and whorehouses in Indonesia, al Qaeda has shown it has no qualms about attacking inside Arab and Islamic lands." Doggie Wants a $165 Leash? This is one thing I will place reasonably high on a list of ills of society: people who dress up their dogs in expensive fashion items. This site gives a list of some accessories your mongrel just need to have. How about a "Palm Beach-worthy, chain-link collar-and-leash set in green leather"  at just $165? Or the $65 designer dish? Of course the killer product is the "Le Pooch II Conditioning eau de cologne" at just $38 (picture). That should do away with that stench, and have all the other dogs in the neighbourhood really confused! I wonder if that dog could mate? NASA Decides to Debunk 'Moon Hoax' Conspiracy Theorists One of the most popular massive conspiracy theories to get popular exposure lately is the claim that no humans went to the Moon in 1969. The Apollo landings were fakes, conspiracy theorists allege, and the whole thing was set up in a hangar on a secret military base in the US. I don't know what was the final straw for NASA. Perhaps it was the fact that Fox decided to air a show giving great public exposure to the nuts and few rebuttals. Or perhaps it was when Fox' filmmaker and conspiracy proponent  Bart Sibrel publicly harassed astronaut Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin to have him 'swear on the Bible' he really went to the moon. Whatever the case, NASA now plans to publish a book proving the Moon landings were genuine, and debunk all the conspiracy nut claims. Some says that this gives the conspiracy nuts more credibility than they deserve. After all, there has been a number of good web sites (or here) available for years that thoroughly debunks the conspiracy claims. Bali Suspect Confesses A man suspected of involvement in the deadly October 12 attack on Bali has confessed, says Indonesian police. The man is known as Amrozi, and was the last registered owner of a minivan used in the attack. 3:28:01 PM    comment []

Fuck You to Supreme Court Hmm, perhaps that headline didn't come out right? Oh well. A student is going to the US Supreme Court to defend his right to write "fuck you" in a thesis. The university had refused to award him his degree unless he removed those offending words. he refused, and now he's  doing it the American way: take them to court over it. 4:02:41 AM    comment []

Reality Overtakes SciFi The US Army recently test-fired a laser weapon and managed to shoot down an artillery shell in flight. The implications of such a weapon even just for point defence can be staggering. It is yet another example showing how the US military is surpassing the rest of the world fast, as nobody else has remotely the capacity to put so much money into military research. We can be happy that this power is in the hands of a democratic nation with generally benign motives and conduct (I am not being sarcastic. Honest!) 1:47:09 AM    comment []
