Former Italian Prime Minister Sentenced for Murder
Giulio Andreotti, who were primine minister in Italy seven times up to 1992, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for his involvment in a 1979 Mafia murder of a journalist. The verdict, which is still subject to an appeal to the supreme court, has hit the Italian political establishment like a bombshell, and has already drawn strong criticism from leading politicians.
