Not mostly harmless
The argument for 'alternative' remedies is often that it at least does not have serious side effects. Tell that to psychic and columnist Derek Ogilvie, who tried magnet therapy 'prescribed' to him by general practicioner and occsational alternative therapist Dr Martin Innes. He ended up in the casualty after looking like he was beaten black and blue, with sore eyes and a horrible headache. Supposedly, he had tried various items that were 'magnetic' and 'infrared.'

Second UN resolution on Iraq next week
The US will submit a new resolution to the UN Security Council next week, according to a senior diplomat. The resolution draft will be simple and give Iraq "one last chance", and also state that Iraq is in "material breach" which is sufficient to justify military action. The resolution draft is unlikely to be put to a vote before the next weapons inspector report, in the beginning of March. The American timetable for war looks seriously compromised already.

Speaking of "way too much time on their hands."

Referee attacked players with axe
After sustaining abuse from players in a London five-a-side football (soccer) tournament, the man in black suddenly snapped. He left the field, just to come back with a long axe, starting to chase the players around with it. A witness said "The ref was like Conan the Barbarian." Nobody was injured, but the game was cancelled. The referee is banned from the five-a-side league.
Rayne sent me this link, having for some reason thought about me while reading the story. Hopefully it was the reference to football, which I occasionally mention here, and not the use of an axe that reminded her of me.

Cursing in church
"Microsoft must take an approach that favors and embraces the diversity of open source software or face oblivion, David Stutz, a departing Microsoft executive wrote in his farewell letter to the company." (InfoWorld)
Uh oh. He said the "O" word, which reminds people about the "L" word.
