Hear, Hear!
My brother in arms, The Raven, has just delivered another salvo deconstructing postmodernism. Uh, it's possible that didn't come out exactly right, but you get the idea.

ATM locator
If you're travelling, locating the nearest ATM to get some cash can be difficult. This site lists all ATMs in the world that take Visa, at least. May well be worth a bookmark.

Back!
Sort of... still some functionality, like email, that is not fully functional yet. And why don't XP find and connect to my NT4 domain? Oh well. Every day another challenge.

No looking back!
After postponing it countless times over a number of lousy excuses, I will not, finally, upgrade my system to Windows XP. With a bit of luck, I'll be back up blogging, eh, Real Soon Now.

Political reflections
I think a majority of blogs have politicial commentaries at least from time to time. Surely mine has. Especially the issue of war with Iraq has dominated the politicial blogsphere (any political sphere) for the last months.
Not all reactions are equally reflected and well forumalated, and that goes for both sides I may add. For some serious reflections on history and politics, take a look at Subdued Citizen Reflects & Rails. I found his recent comparison of pre-1914 Germany and present day US interesting, especially as described in Kissinger's book Diplomacy.
And I have to note this quotation:
"This Administration appears to believe that we don't need diplomacy when we have such overwhelming military superiority."
This view is not anything new, I have to add. Small countries like mine needs good diplomacy. It is not a coincidence that many internationally famous top diplomats have been from small countries like Sweden or Norway. The US may not need good diplomats, or diplomatic behaviour generally, but would surely benefit from it.

What has Texas done to deserve this?

Well, on second thought, nevermind...
I wonder if this is a joke on George Bush, from his pet Dept of Homeland Security's Ready.gov website.

Iraq reluctant to destroy illegal missile system
Iraqi officials are complaining about an order to destroy the al-Samoud missile systems just as it faces a coalition attack, saying destroying the missiles is like signing its own death warrant. However, if Iraq should fail to comply with Hans Blix' order, it would hand George Bush all he needs to sway the Security Council in his favour.

"Peace in Middle Earth in Our Time"
"Thousands of peace activists took to the streets of Minas Tirith and other cities of Middle Earth today to protest what they termed a rush to war with Mordor. "

Transplant girl's family refused to donate her organs
Duke University Medical Center spokesman Richard Puff "said the family declined to donate any organs from Jesica's body, including the heart and lungs that she received in the second transplant." (NYT)

Child abuse also in the Jewish community
The widely published scandals involving sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church has lead to similar tragic incidents being uncovered in other religious denominations, too. A number of sexual predators among the Jewish clergy were moved around from area to area as accusations of abuse started to mount, all to protect the church at the cost of the children.

The duct tape site
I was somewhat surprised to find that the site ready.org, which belongs to the US Department of Homeland Security, is the most linked to site in blogland today.

I knew it!
"Whatever their preferences, "men and women live in different taste worlds", remarks Bartoshuk." (Nature)
Actually, this is a slight out-of-context quotation from a very interesting article linking our sense of taste, which is stronger in some than others, to our diet and therefor to our health.
