Forked tongue is IN
Forget tattoos. Piercings are hopelessly passe. The next big thing, if we are to believe some trend watchers, is splitting your tongue down the middle with a scalpel.
Now, if that didn't make you cringe, please increase your medication.
Ian, a young man who already has numrous body modifications I don't want to know much about, describes what made him do this.
"I like the way it looks," he said, listing his reasons. "Two, I think it will be more fun during oral sex and the girls will get a kick out of it. Three, everyone and their mother has their tongue pierced and four, I'm an idiot."
There apparently are even more reasons:
After splitting his tongue, Emrys Yetz, 20, said it wasn't long before he could move each half independently and do party tricks like picking up pens and pencils.
I think that brings us back to reason two above.

DNS at twenty
DNS, the domain name system which is a core service of the Internet, is 20 years old today. Be thankful you can look up, say, www.salon.com instead of 206.14.209.40.

Iraqis back to business
With sanctions lifted and no taxes or bribes to pay, Iraqi traders are experiencing business paradise. Markets are overflowing with goods, and the prices have been dropping rapidly.
"There are no restrictions on imports and the traders are free now to import all kinds of goods, including cars," said Salim Hassan, a trader in the Karrada area of Baghdad. "Most of the goods are coming from the North, Iran, Jordan and Syria."
A favourable exchange rate for the dinar has also contributed to making goods previously out of reach for ordinary Iraqis more affordable.
I wonder if we'll read about this in the Guardian, not to mention the anti-American Norwegian media?

— Iraqi leaders were in Syria
Saddam Hussein's former presidendial aide Abid Hamid Mahmud al-Tikriti has reportedly told US officials that he escaped to Syria with Saddam's sons, before being expelled and going back to Iraq. When Donald Rumsfeld, at the end of hostilities, accused Syria of harbouring Iraqi leaders, the Syrians denied the accusations.

Google me this, google me that
Most companies would be delighted to find a brand name made into a household name, but Google is worried that adding the term "to google" to a dictionary will damage the brand name.
