Miller Light?
I thought I would not post anything xmas related for another year or so now, but I just had to give youa link to White Trash XMas (req. flash, sound). A hilarious bashing of a group it is still not too un-PC to stereotype.

Mao
Today it is 110 years since Mao Zedong was born. Alongside Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot, he was one of the despots with murderous ideas who caused massive human suffering in the last century.
Are we allowed to hope that Saddam Hussein becomes the last dictator in history directly responsible for the deaths of millions?
China is still celebrating Mao's birthday, but in an increasingly low-key way, as it is moving towards capitalism while trying to retain the Communist Party in power.

Pediatrics organisation wanted breastfeeding ads toned down
Baby formula makers have succeeded in lobbying the American Academy of Pediatrics to try to water down a planned federal ad campaign encouraging American mothers to breastfeed. Considering the enormous health benefits of breastfeeding compared to giving infants formula, this put the leadership of the organisation at odds with many of its members.
As I have noted earlier, breastfeeding is way more common in e.g Norway than in the US. One reason is that private corporations have a much larger role in American healthcare, and while there are $billions to make from selling infant formula, breastfeeding is free.

Now you are telling!
Economists are wondering why people do such a stupid thing as exchanging gifts, as the practice is an irrational waste of resources.

Why is it called boxing day?
The name goes back to the medieval practice of placing alms boxes at the back of every church door for collecting money for the poor. On December 26 the boxes were opened and the money distributed, thus this day is still called boxing day.
Here in Norway there is no special name for it. The day is just called second Christmas day (andre juledag).

Another attack on Pakistanti President
Pakistani president Musharraf was very close to being killed by terroritst suicide bombers, but he is even more determinated to fight terrirism after the attack that killed and wounded at least 14 people and wounded many more.
The failed attack obviously means that Musharraf knows it is him or them. Al Qaeda and local extremists know the importance of Musharraf in the war on terror.
