Iran: Aid welcome, except from Israel

Following the devastating earthquake, Iran admits it is ill-equipped to deal with the humanitarian disaster, and is asking the world for help. With one exception.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran accepts all kinds of humanitarian aid from all countries and international organizations with the exception of the Zionist regime” (Israel), Khanjani said.

In case we forget how deep the hatred is.

...but not so open that the brain falls out

Sometimes the "open directory" project comes up with some odd structures. A Google search for "utilitarian ethics" points me to the directory entry for Immenuel Kant. Huh? Utilitarianism is about as far away from Kantian ethics as it gets. It should obviously point to Mills, but it didn't.

The search even pointed to the old directory entry for Kant, as it has been moved.

Does anybody really use the Google Directory anyway?

Gay poll backfire

The American Family Association has set up a poll to confirm that Americans really support a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

Obviously, word has gotten around and the result so far is not exactly what they hoped for.

I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and "civil unions"  31.98%
I favor legalization of homosexual marriage   59.77%
I favor a "civil union" with the full benefits of marriage except for the name  8.25%

A landslide! Nod to Andrew Sullivan.

Frequent readers of this blog may remember that I use to say that organisations with "family" in the name are typically about hating someone, most frequently gays. And indeed, if you want a sampler of what kind of ignorant morons run the American Family Association, just check this story.

Busy news day

You know there has been a horrible day in the world when both a targeted killing and a new suicide bombing in Israel gets buried. Indeed the day after Christmas was a bloody one, with at least 20,000 being killed in an earthquake in Iran, a gas leak accident killing 200 in China and a deadly plane crash in Benin taking at least 113 lives.
