Web inventor gets knighted
Tim Berners-Lee, the Brit who invented the world wide web while he worked for CERN in Switzerland, is to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his accomplishment.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee, that sounds good I think.

Why do educated people believe in God?
It was long assumed that as the general level of education grew, supernaturalism would go the way of the dodo. This never happened, and even quite a few highly capable scientists believe in God and even go to church.

Ashcroft steps aside in Plame investigation
US authorities have named Patrick Fitzgerald (picture), the US Attorney in Chicago, as a special counsel in charge of the probe into the alleged White House leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity. Attorney General John Ashcroft has withdrawn from the case.
The Plame affair is apparently not dead and buried after all.
US Deputy Attorney General James Comey gave this explanation as to why Ashcroft withdraws:
"The attorney general, in an abundance of caution, believed that his recusal was appropriate, based on the totality of circumstances and the facts in evidence developed at this stage of the investigation."
All very well. But Democrats demanded that Ashcroft step aside when the investigation started, which obviously was a reasonable request considering the close ties between him and the White House. So why has Ashcroft decided to withdraw now, months later? One can assume it's because the FBI investigation just now has actually come up with something politically sensitive.
It is really not realistic to expect that Ashcroft would be able to bury a truly meaty scandal even if he was officially in charge. There would simply be too many people in the know, and too many journalists eager to report a leak if they smelled a coverup. So, this may just as well mean that the FBI has not found anything, and that the Justice Dept. knows that reporting that the search turned up a blank will look bad in any case, but less bad if the news is reported by somebody else than Ashcroft.

Paris Hilton beats John Ashcroft for pizza
Domino's Pizza in Washington DC keeps track of what prank names people use for pizza deliveries, or they know what to say to get free advertising.
"Paris Hilton" is the No. 1 fake name used by people calling for pizza deliveries, according to a survey of Domino's Pizza drivers in Washington, DC. And 38 per cent of those using the name of the socialite model ordered pepperoni topping.
US Attorney-General John Ashcroft might want to open an investigation into these findings - he was No. 2 on the list of assumed names used by people ordering pizza.
Paris Hilton sure doesn't look like she's eaten much pepperoni topping.

George Bush, Hillary Clinton most admired Americans
President Bush and former first lady and current senator Hillary Clinton makes the top of the list for most admired men and women in the US.
For the men, Colin Powell and the Pope came in second and third. The runners-up for most admired women were Oprah Winfrey, first lady Laura Bush and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice.
What is the pope doing on such a list? "I'd like to become a bigoted old man with a stupid hat when I grow up." Sheesh.
