Arafat and wife under investigation for corruption in France
French authorities have started investigations against Yasser Arafat's wife Suha on money laundering charges. She lives in Paris, and French prosecutors suspect that Arafat is putting away international support to the Palestinian Authority in his wife's account.
The Bank of France approached the Paris prosecutor's office after discovering that nearly $1.27 million were allegedly being transferred each month from Switzerland to Suha Arafat's accounts in Paris, where she lives, the officials said.
The prosecutor's office opened a preliminary money-laundering investigation in October, the officials said on condition of anonymity. The probe was first reported by a weekly satirical newspaper, Le Canard Enchaine, on Wednesday.
Hardly any surprise that Arafat is corrupt. It is more of a surprise that the French prosecutors actually dare to look into this.
If more EU countries look a bit closer at Arafat, I expect they will find quite a bit of their own money in Arafat's coffers. And the rest spread over Palestine as weapons and explosive belts.

Chastity preserved
A 40 year old British woman set off metal detectors at Athens airport, and the security personell had a good laugh when they found out the reason: she was wearing a stainless steel chastity belt.
According to the press report, the woman told police officers her husband had forced her to put on the belt to make sure she had no extra-marital affair during a brief visit to Greece.
Or maybe the answer is a bit more ... kinky than that?

Virginity sold
A British lesbian student sold her virginity on the Internet for £8,400 (~US$15,700). Needless to say, her mother is not very happy. And whoever bought her cherry on a net auction is one sick puppy with way too much money on his hands.

Clark drops out
According to an aide, presidential hopeful and former Nato supreme commander Wesley Clark has decided to drop out of the race after placing third in both Virginia and Tennessee primaries.
John Kerry won both contests, with Edwards in the second spot. It is very notable that Kerry is able to win in the south against southerners.
