Water on Mars changes odds on Earth
British bookmakers Ladbrokes has stopped taking bets on whether there ever was life on Mars after Nasa's Mars rovers have apparently settled the question about water.
A Ladbrokes spokesman says the latest odds in favor of past life on Mars were 16-1. Back in the '70s, when the first bets were placed, the odds were 1,000-1
He says he expects that scientists will find evidence of past life on Mars within the coming years.
I would not say it that strongly, but it surely increases the odds a lot.
I wonder if anyone in the 70s took that 1000 to 1 bet?

Agent Smith dislikes Hollywood
British born Aussie actor Hugo Weaving has reached stardom with his roles in two of the greatest blockbusters of all times, playing Elrond in the Lord of the Rings series and Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy. But he still really, really dislikes Hollywood. Great profile and interview!
Weaving certainly did his job as Elrond, but the bad-ass Smith character will really go down in film history.
But, sorry, it is just not cool anymore to pick a "Smith" nickname or avatar on message boards and online games. Just thought I'd let you know.

Lingerie ad too strong for Brits

The above advert for Elle Macpherson's range of lingerie has been banned by Britain's advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for being "offensive." Some people complained that the picture indicates that the woman is masturbating.
The ad has already been running in Vogue, who told the ASA they thought it was "beautiful with no disturbing undertones."
Because there has to be some puritans in Europe, too. We're beginning to run out of faraway continents where we can ship them.

John Kerry is the democratic candidate
There is no point in discussing hypothetical possibilities anymore. Kerry won nine of the ten "super Tuesday" states according to projections and exit polls, excluding Vermont that went to Howard Dean, and Edwards is withdrawing from the race. With the added votes from the biggest states California and New York, he would have been practically unbeatable at any rate.
Kerry is the democratic candidate, and can save his remaining money for the big contest. Conclusion: Nobody listens to Mickey Kaus.
Next question: Does Kerry have a chance beating Bush? I mean, really?

The Passion of the Beast
The number 666, known as the number of the unholy beast from the Book of Revelation, appears on the movie tickets for a Georgia cinema showing Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ:
The machine that prints tickets assigned the number 666 as a prefix on all the tickets for the film, said Gary Smith, owner of the Movies at Berry Square in northwest Georgia. The 666 begins a series of numbers that are listed below the name of the movie, the date, time and price.
Smith insists this happened by accident.
Heh!
