Kerry electability?

There's been a few episodes that raises questions about John Kerry's character, which supposedly is very important for electability, and here comes another one. The press never has vacation, after all, even when Kerry tries to snowboard.

ABC News Kerry campaign reporter "Diamond" Ed O'Keefe, who, (not) incidentally, looks hot in his ski gear, files this exclusive report from atop Bald Mountain in Idaho:

As Senator John Kerry carved his Burton snowboard down a green rated Upper College run, another skier interrupted his stride, colliding with the presumptive Democratic nominee at 9,010 feet.

The slope-cade of two Ski Patrollers, several Secret Service agents, two journalists, one camera and one Kerry aide suddenly came to a halt. The Massachusetts Senator lay on the ground, removed his Smith sunglasses, and surveyed the damage.

Assured that the ABC News camera accompanying the entourage had not captured Kerry's fall, the Senator glared at your sloping Noter and assured, "I don't fall down. That son of a bitch ran into me."

A moment of anger, maybe understandable, but doesn't look good directed at a man whose job it is to take a bullet for him. And it wasn't like this was a burst of the moment; it was uttered directly to journalists some time after the event.

Kerry hater extraordinaire Mickey Kaus is having a field day.

"Saddam is a pimp, ask your sister"

A fascinating collection of wall graffiti from Baghdad, showing the uncensored opinions of ordinary Iraqis.

I doubt the FCC would approve of most of them, though.

There is probably more freedom of speech in Iraq than in the US or for that matter Norway now. While it lasts.

The downside of being an extremist

That's the problem when you are an extremist: your threats are unlikely to persuade anyone you have already been trying to kill for years (well, except the Spanish). The Taliban wants the US forces and the Pakistanis to stop pounding them:

The Taliban yesterday threatened to launch reprisals against US and Pakistani forces if they did not call off their pursuit of the Afghan militant movement and its al-Qaida allies in the mountains of Pakistan's South Waziristan region.

And if they don't, will the Taliban start leaving people alone?  Yeah right. It goes like this:

Bad guy: Drop your gun or I'll kill you
Good guy: But you'll kill me anyway
Bad guy: Eh, right.

If you're too extreme, threats are unlikely to have much of an effect. What more can these murdering bastards do that they would not do anyway?

So I hope Musharraf's men keep hammering them. One hundred captives so far, and up to 500 still trapped in their mud fortresses. The senior terrorist they protect is unlikely to be al-Zawahri, alas, but a top-ranking Uzbek or Chechen militant will be a good catch too.

Remember that al-Zawahri was once arrested for being involved in Islamist terrorism in Egypt, and later released to fight another war. Who knows which of the al-Qaeda soldiers holed up there could become a future terrorist that brings even more devastations on the world.

More slimy lawyers attacking blogs

Cease and desist letters to bloggers are getting more and more common, no doubt helped by our higher profile. The latest group of bloodsucking lawyers to jump on a blogger is are crispi.sarah@arentfox.com and long.sarah@arentfox.com representing Discovery Communictions, and their target is blogger On the Fritz. It appears the motive for jumping him was recent criticism of the channel in a totally different context.

Hat tip to Dean's World.

Copyright lawyers will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes!
