Review: The Passion of the Christ

Picture from Passion of the Christ - Crucifiction

Helped by massive hype and controversy, Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ stormed US box offices and is currently filling movie theatres even across secularised Europe. Obviously, the movie finds a large audience around the world. When I watched it yesterday, I found an unusual audience for a R rated movie (here in Norway, 15 years): an extraordinary number of young people with the special holier-than-thou look they must be practicing a lot in churches. However, make no mistake about it: this is a good movie, maybe even a great movie, despite a number of weaknesses.[Read the rest, including spoilers, blood & gore, alleged anti-Semitism and some historical howlers]

Spammer lost Porsche

AOL has an online raffle for a Porsche it seized from a spammer. AOL is sending a message that if you are a spammer, they'll sue you for your house, your car, your kneecaps. Well, maybe not your kneecaps.

Taking the penis extension from a spammer must be the ultimate justice. Well, besides public tarring and feathering, maybe.

Agree with Dean.

Nigerian fundies still against polio vaccinations

MacRaven has the story about how Islamic fanatics in Nigeria is threatening to put an end to the plans to eradicate polio, based on their superstitions and conspiracy theories. Includes this scary quote:

"We depend on our religion," says Mohammed Kabir, a Kano student. "Anything our leader says, we are going to agree with him."

Führerprinzip, indeed! When I call this form of Islamic fundamentalism Islamofascism, I actually mean that quite literally.

More background on how Islamist opposition to vaccinations in Nigeria kills people.

Today, Europe. Tomorrow, the world!

Remember the Norwegian politician I wrote about who wanted to unite Europeans in a campaign against President Bush? The web site EuropeAgainstBush.org still only has a placeholder that promises content Real Soon Now, but the new campaign name (and primary domain name) promises expansion: TheWorldAgainstBush.org. Maybe to include some non-European gentlemen who also hates Bush?

Well, the geographical expansion of the campaign may be astonishing, but the content of the website was supposed to be there a week ago.

Oh, and Knud Edmund Berthelsen doesn't reply to email.

Kerry's handshake problem

John Kerry has a bad shoulder after holding too many babies, and now he has to go through surgery that will mean he can't shake hands for two to three weeks.

Solution: kiss more babies. But make sure somebody else holds them.

"It appears to be fornication in a convertible"

If you're planning to have sex in a convertible, outdoors, just hope there is no army helicopter nearby taking pictures.

The video is not very much to look at, but the comments are hilarious!
