Dr Iyad Allawi said the vote should be held by the end of the year, or even earlier. "We are working on a framework of six months," he said.
"Personally, I would bring the election date sooner. That depends on the situation we find ourselves in."
Elections would clearly add a dimension of legitimacy to the Iraqi government. Early elections would also, I think, increase the chance that the currently appointed government members win, but that is a secondary concern for the rest of us.
Six months from now? Well, that would be around November wouldn't it? Hmm.
Dick Cheney was not too happy about comments made about his relationship to Halliburton by democrat Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.). The interchange heated up, and Cheney ended the conversation with this piece of advice:
"Fuck yourself!"
As we all know, timing is everything:
As it happens, the exchange occurred on the same day the Senate passed legislation described as the "Defense of Decency Act" by 99 to 1.
Mobiles, like the Internet, are great for networking with people. And if you want to lie to your boss or cheat on your girlfriend, there is even an "alibi and excuse club" out there that can help you. Sometimes, however, even the professional cheaters think the users step over the line.
One member recently used the club to fool his wife so he could stay at a sports bar to watch the N.B.A. finals. Another member — the wife of a soldier stationed in Iraq — sent out a message asking for help to conjure up an excuse after becoming pregnant by another man. But in that case, many responders urged the woman to tell her husband the truth, according to club members.
An excuse for watching sports is fine. Cheating on a guy putting his life on the line may be a bit much. And what excuse could possibly have worked anyway? The last good one was used up 2000 years ago, and people are not going to fall for it again.
He also told Fox News that about 10 or 12 sarin and mustard gas shells have been found in various locations in Iraq.
The shells are all from the first Gulf War era and thus weakened, though intelligence sources say they’re still dangerous.
As far as I have been able to see, the media has only mentioned two such shells earlier.
Considering the shells are unmarked as chemical weapons, one can wonder how many of them are still left lying around. These were the chemical weapons Saddam supposedly had destroyed, remember.
