Target: Basayev
WindsofChange.Net has a very informative article about the Chechen terrorists and their links to al-Qaeda, and also argues that a political solution in Chechnya, however desirable, is unlikely.to stop the terror.

Pakistan: No idea where Bin Laden is
Pakistan has dismissed the claims from US counter-terrorism official Cofer Black that the allies are closing in on Bin Laden
But Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Black's remarks were a "political statement."
"We don't have any information about that," Ahmed told Reuters by telephone from Saudi Arabia where he is accompanying Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on an official visit.
The statements can be many things, and political is surely one of them.

Enemies armed by Russia, France, China
The Drudge Report is a source of dubious quality, but nobody can deny he gets scoops from time to time. Now he's announcing a book from Washington Post reporter Bill Gertz that may well be a bombshell. Apparently, the US government and intelligence services are not happy about it all. The book Treachery: How American's Friends and Foes are Secretly Arming Our Enemies will detail information that can, if it's true, easily embarrass some reluctant but important allies in the war on terror.
A third, top-secret CIA special analysis shows that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il has survived with the help of China and that he has been able to shore up his regime with external support and internal repression.
The documents are a small sampling of the intelligence revealing how nations like France, Russia, China and Germany are supplying the rogue states of the world – North Korea, Iran, Syria – with deadly arms.
Other key features include: How Iraqi insurgents are killing U.S. soldiers with weapons that France, Germany, and Russia sold them.
How China supplied arms to al Qaeda after 9/11 How the Pakistani nuclear proliferation network is even more extensive than has been reported, involving Russia, China, Libya, Iran, and North Korea, among others The CIA report revealing that al Qaeda is actively pursuing—and may already have—nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons.
Of course, as long as Halliburton isn't involved, the press may just ignore it.

How quickly the conventional wisdom changes
RasmussenReports:
"The race for the White House, while still very close, is now the President's to lose."
What is the turnaround time on conventional wisdom these days? [are you channeling Mickey Kaus? --ed. We all steal where we can.]
