There is certainly no lack of strange animals in the world, but this NYT article shows one of the weirder ones: Condylura cristata or star-nosed mole. I had no idea a mammal with tentacles around its mouth existed.
Remember what your mom taught you about not eating too fast? This guy didn't listen.

Andy Boyers says he has found a glaring security hole in US airport security. And, probably, if he can find it, somebody with more sinister motives have already discovered this loophole.

The search company Ask Jeeves is to buy Bloglines. The financial details are not yet known.
I am using Bloglines all the time to keep up with the blogosphere, and I just hope AJ doesn't come up with any clever ideas that ruins it.

Many Dutch schools are banning the Dutch flag. Yes, really!
No symbols that identify specific groups are considered acceptable and any student may be permanently expelled for coming to school with flags on their clothing, shoes or briefcases. Earlier this week readers reacted with fury to another school in IJsselstein, this school forbids any display of flags because this would provoke students of other nationalities.
There is something seriously wrong if you are living in a foreign country, and this is a country known for its liberalism and tolerance, and you are provoked by the display of the country's national symbol. It is tragic when the country itself gives in to such radical sentiments.

Steve Coll may not have any new evidence that Bin Laden is close to a nuclear weapon, but he does point out the absolute determination the terrorist has in acquiring one and launching the ultimate attack on the US. Even nuclear scientists, knowing too well how difficult work it is to make an atomic bomb, are not convinced the threat is insignificant.
His inspiration, repeatedly cited in his writings and interviews, is the American atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which he says shocked Japan's fading imperial government into a surrender it might not otherwise have contemplated. Bin Laden has said several times that he is seeking to acquire and use nuclear weapons not only because it is God's will, but because he wants to do to American foreign policy what the United States did to Japanese imperial surrender policy.
Listening to him on tape after tape, it is difficult to doubt bin Laden's intent. There is evidence that he and his allies have experimented with chemical and biological weapons, typically low-level toxins. But in public, bin Laden talks mainly about nuclear bombs.
He may be on the run, but it's certainly too early to write off Bin Laden. Also, his ideology will probably outlive him, and what will happen if a group of nuclear scientists in, say, Pakistan, is radicalised by Bin Laden's murder screed?

Not unexpectedly, after the successful elections in Iraq, George Bush's approval rating has bounced to 57% on the Gallup poll, the highest in a year. And also, 55% now thinks the US made the right decision by invading Iraq.
Expect this to slide back a bit when the daily trickle of MSM bad news comes in.
Read the full poll results. Lots of interesting details, not the least of which being Howard Dean is seen approvingly by only 31% against 38% unfavourably. Bill Clinton is still seen favourably by 56% of the polled. For some reason they didn't ask about Hillary.
Of course, nobody beats Laura Bush who has an 80% approval rating. Laura in '08!
