An FBI analyst has been charged with passing information to a pro-Israel lobby group:
Larry Franklin, 58, of Kearneysville, W. Va., turned himself in Wednesday morning, FBI spokeswoman Debra Weierman said. He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., later Wednesday, Weierman said.
The charge is the first in an investigation dating back to 2001 about whether Israel improperly obtained classified U.S. information.
Franklin, who specialized on Iran and Middle Eastern affairs, allegedly gave the information to two people not entitled to receive it at a luncheon meeting at a restaurant in Arlington, Va., in June 2003, FBI agent Catherine Hanna said in an affidavit accompanying the criminal complaint against Franklin. The people at the lunch were employees of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a law enforcement official said on condition of anonymity because they are not identified in court papers.
Bad. Very, very bad. The two AIPAC employees, Steve Rosen, the director of research, and Keith Weissman, deputy director of foreign policy issues, no longer works for the lobby group. Israel says it has a ban on spying on the US, its closest and most important friend. I doubt there is much information about Middle East security the US would not be willing to share with Israel willingly. This is just stupid.

According to the Pakistani government, security forces have arrested top al-Qaeda terrorist Abu Faraj al Libbi (picture).
Al Libbi and three of the men were arrested several days ago in Wazirstan, a tribal area of Pakistan on the border of Afghanistan, the country's information minister and intelligence sources told CNN Wednesday.
Al Libbi is a Libyan and has a $1 million bounty on his head.
"It's a good sign and we are going in the right direction," Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told CNN.
In another raid, this one Wednesday in Bajore on the northwestern frontier near the Afghan border, intelligence officials and local police told CNN seven al Qaeda members were arrested.
Al Libbi was last year reported to be al-Qaeda's third in command, taking over the post from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed after he was arrested in 2003. His name is also spelled Abu Farraj al Libbi.

Are you hungry? I mean, really, really hungry?
A Pennsylvania restaurant that lost its crown as home of the world's biggest hamburger earlier this year now offers a new one that weighs a whopping 6.75 kilograms (15 pounds).
Dubbed the Beer Barrel Belly Buster, the burger comes with 4.7 kilograms (10.5 pounds) of ground beef, 25 slices of cheese, a head of lettuce, three tomatoes, two onions, 1 1/2 cups each of mayonnaise, relish, ketchup, mustard and banana peppers - and a bun. It costs $30 US.
"It can feed a family of 10," said Denny Liegey, the owner of Denny's Beer Barrel Pub.
If this "arms race" about the world's biggest burger continues, soon we'll have one that can feed a whole city.
