British political correctness gone crazy:
POLICE have agreed to consult a panel of Muslim leaders before mounting counter-terrorist raids or arrests. Members of the panel will offer their assessment of whether information police have on a suspect is too flimsy and will also consider the consequences on community relations of a raid.
Members will be security vetted and will have to promise not to reveal any intelligence they are shown. They will not have to sign the Official Secrets Act.
The first panel, expected to consist of four people, will be set up initially in London. Tomorrow representatives from police forces across England and Wales will decide whether to make the scheme national.
Muslim groups have welcomed the move, which is understood to be backed by Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police commissioner.
This week the Association of Chief Police Officers will discuss with MI5 and the Home Office whether to reveal to the panel intelligence information from the security service.
Shouldn't the police also consult a panel of Christian leaders before arresting any Christians for crimes? I surely would want a panel of secular humansists to protect my interests (well, on second thought, maybe not).
The forthcoming panel of Wiccan leaders is surely going to be an interesting crowd...
Update: A poll tells us something about the attitude British Muslims have towards terrorism.
Almost one in 10 British Muslims would not inform police if they suspected that someone of the same faith was involved in a terror attack, a poll suggested.
The ICM poll for the News of the World found 9% of the 502 questioned would not tell police if they had such suspicions about a fellow Muslim.
With a Muslim population aged over 16 in Britain of around one million, that would translate to 90,000 "turning a blind eye", the newspaper said.
However, almost nine out of every 10 (86%) would contact police, according to the survey.
Isn't this a glass-half-full or half-empty issue, except it is more 90-10 than 50-50? Surely, it would have been preferrable if all Muslims (all citizens generally) would report terrorist-like activity. But surely 86% is better than we'd have reason to fear. If it reflects what people would do, as opposed to what people tell they would do when polled, it indicates it would be very difficult for terrorists to hide in Muslim communities. And certainly the clear majority doesn't support them.

These are harsh words:
"With this I come to a conclusion and pronounce my judgment. I condemn Islam; I bring against Islam the most terrible of all the accusations that an accuser has ever had in his mouth. It is, to me, the greatest of all imaginable corruptions; it seeks to work the ultimate corruption, the worst possible corruption. Islam has left nothing untouched by its depravity; it has turned every value into worthlessness, and every truth into a lie, and every integrity into baseness of soul. "
What is this? A desire for having your head leave your shoulders, to invite the harshest condemnations from the entire world? No. It is a forgery. Above, the word "Islam" should be substituted with the original "Christianity." The author is Friedrich Nietzsche, the book is his monumental work "The Antichrist" from 1895. And the idea to make this substitution for effect belongs to Danish writer and philosopher Henrik Gade Jensen, who posted a fascinating article on Catholic-Web.dk.
The western world has a long tradition of criticism of religion, more specifically the dominant religion of our part of the world, Christianity. The criticism was harsh, direct, insulting and undoubtedly, in many cases, deeply unfair.
Yet, in face of the double threat of Islamic violence and accusations from multiculturalists of being "racist", criticism of the most extreme religious elements of our day has been silenced. Even in its "moderate" form, Islam is in fact more anti-gay, more repressive of women, more accepting of religious violence, than even the most conservative Christians. The left, which praises any condemnation of and insult towards Christianity, has allied itself with even Islamic extremists and protects them against all criticisms by branding its critics "racist" or "Islamophobes."
As Jensen says, Islam is no race, it is a faith and a religion. It should be treated accordingly, as we traditionally treat religious ideas in our part of the world: by subjecting them to criticism, scrutiny and even the harshest insults.

I don't place much stock in the reports about Osama Bin Laden's death, even if Time does, but it appears to be true that the leader of the terrorist group Ansar al-Sunna has been captured.
Meanwhile, Iraqi state television reported that the leader of Ansar al-Sunna, a group with links to al-Qaeda in Iraq, had been captured along with two of his aides.
Muntasir al-Jibouri was arrested in the town of Muqdadiya, about 80km northeast of Baghdad, in the troubled province of Diyala, the report said.
Via the Jawa Report.
The leader of the associate organisation Ansar al-Islam, Mullah Krekar, is still living safely here in Norway, despite a valid extradiction order. Apparenatly it's not safe to deport him to Iraq. I'd hope he would not be safe in Iraq!

Many Britons would be willing to give up sex for a long life.
The Mori research found that 40 percent would pass on the passion for longevity, although far more women (48 percent) were willing to make the sacrifice than men (31 percent).
That, I guess, depends on the sex.
