Creationist Kent Hovind, the self-styled Dr Dino, has been found guilty of tax fraud.
Hovind, who faces a maximum of 288 years in prison, was taken into custody Thursday evening after the jury read its verdict.
Hovind's wife, Jo Hovind, was convicted on 44 of the counts involving evading bank-reporting requirements. She faces up to 225 years in prison but was allowed to remain free pending the couple's sentencing Jan. 9, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
Kent Hovind had argued that everything he owned was really God's property, and thus exempt from tax. The evangelist with a diploma mill PhD, disowned even by many fellow creationists, is probably best known for his creationist dinosaur theme park, as well as his extremely dubious $250,000 "evolution challenge." His understanding of tax law is obviously not much better than his grasp of biology.

Iran's obvious nuclear ambitions has encouraged Arab states in the region to do the same.
THE SPECTRE of a nuclear race in the Middle East was raised yesterday when six Arab states announced that they were embarking on programmes to master atomic technology.
The move, which follows the failure by the West to curb Iran’s controversial nuclear programme, could see a rapid spread of nuclear reactors in one of the world’s most unstable regions, stretching from the Gulf to the Levant and into North Africa.
The countries involved were named by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia. Tunisia and the UAE have also shown interest.
All want to build civilian nuclear energy programmes, as they are permitted to under international law. But the sudden rush to nuclear power has raised suspicions that the real intention is to acquire nuclear technology which could be used for the first Arab atomic bomb.
The fear of already nuclear-armed Pakistan falling into extremists hands through a coup, the danger of already-extremist Iran acquiring the bomb, is increased tenfold if these nations also acquire technology that can be used to develop nuclear weapons.
