Norwegian state broadcaster NRK is pretty well beyond biased in its Israeli-Arab conflict, but its radio channel P3 has really gone to extremes in a self-admittedly 'subjective' news commentary by Ken Wasenius Nielsen on November 10. He said about Israel (my translation):
"...what kind of state is it then? I'm not saying the Palestinians are some innocent small rabbits, but they are fighting against Satan himself here.... what about dropping some powder into the drinking water of those bloody Israelis?"
Marius Lillelien, in charge of P3, defended the programme as he called it a "commentary" in a "subjective news programme."
Maybe they should apply for a job in Iran.

In the newest Wired to hit the newsstands here, Bob Garfield has a great article on the YouTube phenomenon. I don't think there are necessarily any mindshattering insights on the superhyped video sharing site in the article, but it is very, very well written. I wished I could ever come up with a line like this:
"If you aren't posting, you don't exist," says Rishad Tobaccowala, CEO of Denuo, a new media consultancy. "People say, 'I post, therefore I am.'"
Constituo, ergo sum. An interesting formulation that may well represent a new rationalism for the digital age. But for the moment, let's not put Descartes before the horse.
Just brilliant.

In 2006, Iran hosts a conference of Holocaust deniers. In 1942, Iran saved Jewish children from the Nazis.
Our answer is to offer a modest suggestion for a topic the "scholars" might consider: How Iran rescued hundreds of Polish Jews (mostly children) from the Holocaust and then helped them immigrate to Palestine. The online Center for Iranian Jewish Oral History has a brief report on these "Children of Tehran" who in 1942 were housed in a refugee tent camp in Dustan Tappeh, outside Tehran (not too far from today's conference location). In 1942, Iranian authorities not only acknowledged the Holocaust - they bravely saved over 1,000 people from Hitler's wrath. In 2006, the spirit of that noble deed has been abandoned, perhaps even inverted.
It is a very nice story, and a reminder of a spirit the Iranians would do well to revive.

How stupid van you get?
A Wichita man called 911 to report he was the victim of an armed robbery. The theft? A pound of marijuana worth about $1,100 that he had been trying to sell at his home.
More stupid criminals.
