An Iraqi terrorist group apparently holds a German mother and son and threatens to kill them unless Germany withdraws from Afghanistan (the poor misguided terrorists don't know the two wars are totally unrelated).
A militant Islamist group in Iraq which says it has two German hostages has threaten to kill them if Berlin does not pull its troops from Afghanistan.
The previously unknown group posted a video on an Islamist website showing masked gunmen threatening a woman and a man said to be her son.
At the same time, the Taleban holds an Italian reporter hostage in Afghanitan, threatening his life unless Italy withdraws its forces from the country.
On Friday, Taleban insurgents said they would free Daniele Mastrogiacomo of the newspaper La Repubblica if he could prove he was not a spy.
But on Saturday, a Taleban spokesmen said the man's life was now at risk.
The Taleban is said to have changed its mind after Italy's lower house voted to keep troops in Afghanistan.
"This vote has put the life of the reporter in danger," a Taleban spokesman told Reuters news agency.
Correspondents say the upper house of the Italian parliament - where the government's majority is narrower - may vote differently when it considers the issue later this month.
If the two governments give in, that would endanger German and Italian citizens everywhere in the world.
In 2003, the German government almost certainly paid a ransom to release tourists kidnapped by Islamists in Mali. The money significantly boosted the power of the extremists in the area.
