Tomorrow is the birthday of an old friend.

Fifteen years ago tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen, Nokia launched the world's first commercially available GSM digital phone, the Nokia 1011, the model number coming from the launch date: 10 November 1992.

I never had one of those, but like almost everybody else in this part of the world, I had a Nokia 3210 for a long time. It was very reliable and easy to use. For unknown reasons, I have later been philandering with Sony Ericsson mobiles, but now I am back to the real thing, after getting myself a sexy Nokia 6500 Slide. I'm very happy with it so far.

Paying attention to the Mythbusters, my favourite TV show ever (admittedly one of, eh, about two I ever watch), can really save your life.

First, the amazing rescue story from Australia, where 14-year-old Julian Shaw saved the life of 54-year-old Mark O'Dwyer, who had fallen into the tracks in front of a freight train.

Julian Shaw, who is 180 centimetres tall and weighs 70 kilograms, was travelling home from school with classmates when he saw Mr O'Dwyer,  who is 187 centimetres tall and weighs 110 kilograms, fall. Julian leapt into action.

Mythbuster and now lifesaver by proxy, Kari Byron."I jumped down on to the tracks, lifted him off the ground and put him on my shoulder - he was heavy but there was enough adrenaline rushing through to help me," said Julian, who is in year 9 at Lisarow High School and plays guitar in punk rock band Checkered Fist.

With the train "just a couple of metres away", Julian moved the North Gosford resident to the edge of the track and rolled him under the platform.

The couple was still in trouble, however, but luckily the young punk rocker (!) had been watching Mythbusters.

"[As the train roared past] the noise pierced your ears and there was a suction that pulled us in," Julian said.

"I'd seen that on MythBusters, so I stayed right back and pulled Mark back towards me."

Julian got a hug and a medal, and he and his band mates have made a new song from the incident.

I just have to take issue with one thing Bryan writes, though.

And the redhead’s kinda cute.

No. Kari Byron is way more than kinda cute.
