The next James Bond:

The title of the new James Bond film, the 22nd of the enduring spy series, has been revealed by producers as "Quantum of Solace."

Q of what? That would mean the smallest bit of comfort, I guess, except quantum leap tends to mean the opposite.

The title is taken from a short story by creator Ian Fleming which was part of the For Your Eyes Only collection in 1960.

I see. Maybe that was around the time when the word "quantum" was hitting the mainstream.

I'll watch it, of course, whenever it comes. I thought Casino Royale started off brilliantly and ended well, but there was some chick flick in the middle I could have done without. Daniel Craig was, as most everybody agreed after the fact, great. But James Bond is just not supposed to have feelings.

The Onion:

After spending two months accompanying his wife, Hillary, on the campaign trail, former president Bill Clinton announced Monday that he is joining the 2008 presidential race, saying he "could no longer resist the urge." [...]

"No longer will I have to endure watching candidates like Hillary Clinton engaging in single-pump handshakes with voters, as I use every last ounce of restraint not to shout out, 'No! Warm double-clasp! Warm double-clasp!'" Clinton said. "America deserves someone who can do it right." [...]

Clinton also noted that, if elected, the timing would be perfect for his family, as his wife has recently expressed a desire to move back to the D.C. area.

That is pretty believable.

One hundred and fifty years ago this week, one of the largest - and largely unknown - engineering tasks of the 19th century took place: lifting the entire city of Chicago six feet up.

Maybe an idea for New Orleans.

Regular reader and commenter Jonathan Riley made me aware of his great writeup, with source references, on this mostly unknown part of American history.
