The Jawa Report:
Is American al Qaeda member and indicted traitor Adam Gadahn dead? Shortly after a U.S. Predator drone attack killed Abu Laith al-Libi last month rumors began to circulate on Islamic message board that Gadahn had been one of those killed in the raid. Later, a Pakistani newspaper quoted "sources" saying Gadahn was killed.
NBC News also claimed that it had a source in Pakistan who was friends with Adam Gadahn and that Gadahn had disappeared after the Predator strike. Gadahn's friends, said the story, were worried about him.
This week a trusted source revealed to me that he was hearing from Pakistan that Gadahn was most likely dead.
The convert Gadahn has famously appeared in a number of al-Qaeda videos as Azzam al-Amriki - "Azzam the American" - threatening his homeland, and became the first American indicted for treason since 1952. Gadahn has famously been a close associate of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and also appeared with Ayman al-Zawahiri.
It is noteworthy that neither the US nor Pakistan - or al-Qaeda itself - have confirmed Gadahn's killing in the Predator drone attack. The lack of identifiable DNA material ("too many body parts") is cited for the first two not being able to confirm his death. Since the terrorist network typically confirms the "martyrdom" of its comrades, the absense of a confirmation in the latter case puts a question mark on the reports about his death.
