OH...

There was something I forgot to tell you.

I forgot to let you know I know you touched my back. Right in the middle, over my spine, with the gentlest touch, a touch only a woman would make. I thought it might have been cultural. You told me about your fear of cats growing up in the Philippines. “Our driver” you told me, “would catch them and release them at the end of our road.” Your world, a world with drivers, may hold Inner-Back-Touching as a symbol of power and love. I saw a Princess in an island palace noticing the figures of the handsome guards until one day eyes meet and as he passes, your hand gently brushed his jacket like a strange insect. I forgot to tell you that.

I forgot to tell you I love you but we are in different realities. You see, my needs are few but stringent. I don’t need money or more “things” but if I do ask for something, I need it. So when I asked you to be there and you weren’t, I let you go. I know. Not resentfully, not maliciously, but I saw how different our life is. Go on, enjoy yours. Really. I’ve been there too and it can be lots of fun. Eventually you may end up someplace that looks like where I am. Or not. But if you are here I will leave you a note on the tree growing over the sidewalk, a note that says “Remember to ask for what you want.”

I forgot to tell you how touched I was by your present. You took a moment to get me despite my years of effort to make myself invincible. You took a moment out of your world to try and enter mine and that effort is what makes us immortal.

I forgot to tell you how proud I am. You have a gift to use for good or for evil. and you chose good which, while not financially sound, has allowed you to create something few people will ever see. The years of trying to move the light switch in your childhood bedroom have paid off. Now, you move mountains. You meet someone and rather than retreating to the cave, you chose to meet the horizon head on, Up Right, walking like a Superhero walks toward the burning building. You did good Kid. Hugh. My man. Oh, one more thing I forgot to tell you, it only gets better.
