HOW GREAT THOU ART

It’s hard to pinpoint why I love artist Mark Newport’s work. Is it the intense attention which the process must entail? (I can barely concentrate on getting through The New Yorker every week. Thank god for cartoons.) Maybe it’s the Super Hero and Betty Paige references as channeled by a nimble fingered grandmother. There’s also just the general MindFuck of a man doing what is traditionally viewed as a “woman’s skill” (Ok, I can knit).

Whatever it is, it’s totally cool, I'm awed and in a perfect world I’d be looking at my hand sewn beaded football trading card right now. Oh, Mr. Newport, I am humbled by your cleverness. If and when The Hughmanator needs my SuperSuit, you will be the first one I call.
