STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

There is a (male) couple down the street from me who have an adopted daughter named Zoe. While her fathers are Moby-Look-Alikes (shaved heads, pale and kinda nerdy looking), Zoe is herself the epitome of Little Girl Style. The most typically Gay Touch in the family includes Zoe’s Aunt (a sister of one of the men) is a children’s clothes designer. The cutest children’s clothes ever, based on Fifties Drawings of Cowboys. Polly and I see The Family often at breakfast and each time we’re dazzled by a new outfit. This is a Little Girl who has no problem with low heeled mules. Really.

Zoe is intensely charming and talkative to both myself and Polly. She seems to have quite the Social Schedule (yesterday she was going to the Hollywood Bowl). Her miracle is quite impressive considering she was the abandoned child of an addictive woman. You rock, Zoe!

Recently a New Addition appeared in the form of Stella. Stella is new-born and still lies wrapped in swaddling clothes in her stroller. Like Zoe, Stella came from unfortunate circumstances. Stella’s mother is a meth addict, they tell me, even snorting on the day Stella was born. Fortunately there seem to be no harmful effects thus far.

Stella and Zoe. J.D. Sallinger names. Names sisters in the Forties might have. Now used years later and in much different Times. I asked the couple if Stella’s mother was aware of their “situation”. Yes, they tell me. In fact, she requested a Gay male Couple to adopt her baby. When she was a kid, her mother had a Gay Male friend and she thought he would have made the Best Father. If, of course, it had been legal. Now she could give her child to Two Loving Men as her way to remember That Man in her past.

The kindness of strangers.
