A CERTAIN SOMEONE

Live your life, have your say.
Read your stars, day by day.
If I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn’t share it with anyone else but me.
Oh, live your life, go your way.
And I said oh no.

Live your life, stake your claim.
Wash your clothes, change your name.
Ooh, and I said oh, no, no.
If I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn’t share it with anyone else but me.

You’re too twisted by half... but that’s far enough.

So live your life, build a home.
Fill it full of flowers and a bottle of old cologne.
Yeah, if I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn’t share it with anyone else but me.

Except perhaps a certain someone
Except perhaps a certain someone
Except perhaps a certain someone
Just to be shown another way out.

You’re too twisted by half... but that’s far enough.

I’d be careful living in a block of flats
And I never take the lift to the top.
No I never take the lift to the top.

You’re too twisted by half... but that’s far enough.

Take a swim round, take a look down.
I’ll never believe what we’ve found
We figured it out, we figured it out
We lived in a house, in a cold room.

- The Sundays

Because if my life were a Secret Spy Movie, this would be the soundtrack.

Because June has been a month of The Sundays. Flashback : Early 90s and driving from NYC to my friend Mimi’s house in the country and drinking margaritas and playing Scrabble. Normally I’m all about some sissified RnB crap but not anymore, dude! This is the real (ok, slightly sissified pop) shit!

Rock n’ Roll, Fuckers! Reading, Writing and Arithmetic (The Sunday’s album) on the computer, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic on my iPod, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic playing in the car while Polly and I speed to our next Top Secret assignment in the dog park.

Because after the machine gun of the drums, the song starts like Advice - like, you know, Be Yourself, etc. Then turns into an Indictment - go ahead, change all You want (asshole). Then an Affirmation - We (Me + Me) figured it out. You haven’t yet? Tough titties.

Because listening to this album reminds me what it’s like to hear music you really, really think is about You. Like how That Song on the radio about Love means something. You can’t wait for the bell to ring so you can run out the building to your room - your own personal Secret Place - where music Understands.

Finally, as always forever and ever amen, because you can dance to it. Real whacked crazy dancing where you lose it and spit flies out of your mouth making you laugh and laugh until your side hurts. Because, as always forever and ever amen, all there is to do in Life is Dance.
