Christmas in Tunisia, v. 1

This is certainly going to be the first of several entries regarding Christmas spent in a warm, Arabic speaking, moderately Muslim country.  It's definitely a new and foreign experience for me, and it's triggering all sorts of thoughts.  I'll keep it simple today, as I'm a bit busy.  Just going to tell a brief story.

We went today to a Christmas party for the American community here.  Santa Claus came in.....on a camel.  Pretty interesting.  He handed out gifts to the kids.  We had known about this, and we have a stuffed Santa and a stuffed camel, so we'd been riding Santa around Mercedes' room, talking to her about Santa and his camel.  I imagine they are permanently linked in her mind, so my daughter will grow up never knowing the reindeer story.  "Rudolph, the Red Nosed Camel, had a very shiny hump....."
