Idiot Dances Before Dying If you don't subscribe to Salon.com, you probably missed today's story about human shields. Not Saddam's Iraqi human shields, but Westerners who are volunteering to be human shields in Iraq. They've signed up through some nonprofit groups in the US and Europe to go to Iraq and stand in front of things and, potentially, die for Saddam. Well, they don't call it dying for Saddam, they call it dying for peace, believing that the U.S. won't kill its own people. I don't want to get into the details of this thing--read the story. But I want to point out simply that this is emblematic of why I can't abide by the left's position on Iraq. There are excellent reasons to oppose the war. But why--why?--would you give Saddam Hussein your life? And make no mistake about it--that's exactly what these people are doing. They are volunteering to die because they believe that the U.S. is worse than Saddam. Which is either sheer ignorance or pure denial. Fight the policy, people. Fight the war. But for Christ's sake, let's keep some perspective here. Don't volunteer to die for Saddam. Plenty of Iraqis and Kurds and Iranians have already done that involuntarily. 9:56:23 PM |
