We are packed out. Our stuff is out of the house, on a truck, headed somewhere mysterious where it will wait for the boat to Dubai, except for the stuff that will take a plane there to get there faster, and the stuff that will go back to Washington to sit in storage until we come back to the States and determine that we no longer want it. In any case, two days of grueling packing out came to a blessed conclusion this evening. Here's the thing about having someone else move your stuff. It's the best way, but that does NOT mean it's stress-free. When it's over, your hands don't hurt so much. And you don't have to scrounge for boxes at the local grocery store. But still, there's a lot of sitting around, wanting to keep an eye on the packers to prevent theft, but not wanting to hang over them like some distrustful asshole. These guys were good, though, and honest. Nice guys. Or it seemed that way to me; they didn't speak any English so Melissa had to do all the communication. Welcome to my life in the Arab world. It's been a long couple of days, but we're glad it's done, and now we have an empty house to live in for a few days before heading home. 9:58:46 PM |
