FIONA SAVES WORLD
It's really Walter Mittyish but a silly virtual movie is unfolding in my mind. The aliens are here and nobody can see it except the Fi. The monumental task of getting everybody else to buy in is left to the tiny, vulnerable Fiona, with hostile Alien Fundamentalist Christians closing in to eliminate her. Her only defense is Knowledge.
Cut. I decided to actually read the latest 'Discourses' from The Allies
http://www.visibiliti.com/newallies/
I made a discovery there -- it is just as I suspected! Humanity is being duped and enslaved by the fundamentalist religions of the world! Scroll down, on their home page, to 'The Fourth Discourse: Manipulation of Religious Traditions and Beliefs'. Read it and gulp. I kind of did. What they are saying about manipulation of religious beliefs really hit a chord for me. At times, it does seem like certain people in authority and fundamentalists of all stripes have absolutely no common sense -- they DO seem like aliens (or "visitors," as the AOH call them). They don't think like regular people. This doesn't prove that there is an "Intervention" going down...
But look how much and how dramatically things have changed since GWB took office. That doesn't prove anything, either, but a lot of what is said here is pretty scary, anyway. Irregardless of whether or not certain people are Visitors, they are doing great harm and I still can't understand why we are just letting them. This country should be on its feet, screaming at the top of its lungs, if not marching on Washington with torches to burn the place down. We can be one of the greatest in the world when we do good things, and now we're being put in a position where everything we have worked for and cherished is systematically being taken out of our hands... Look how manipulation of the markets has created a financial devastation for the middle class, destabilizing the nation. There are no new jobs being put in place. This jobless recovery could very well be designed to create a vast new underclass that can be harnessed to serve corporate interests. We will all have to work harder, and for much less money, because we will have no place to bargain from. It's already happening for a lot of people (like the lady down the street who thought she could retire, but lost her nest egg that she had invested in mutual funds. Now she has to have a job at WalMart. If she feels she needs to be Born Again to cope, well...).
Look at how we get our food -- the food supply is both compromised and under corporate control. Americans really don't see what's being done to them. They just keep reaching out for the shiny SUVs and color TV cell phones, with sparkles in their eyes, like little kids on Christmas day. "Gimme! Gimme!" is the rallying cry of our citizenry, as they succomb, unknowingly.
But by the time the majority drop their "don't worry about it!" attitude, it will be too late.
A quote from a friend regarding her lack of energy for fighting back:
"If I weren't so narrowly focussed on the seemingly rather large thunderhead of coalescing problems in my life right now I'd be way more outraged at the republican meatbutt takeover. Catch me in a few months after things smooth out a little for ME. Course by then the entire world will be pissed at us beyond
reconciliation and it will be a police state with nothing but Walmarts and radioactive deformed salmonella and ecoli infused chicken patties to eat and terrorists blowing up the superbowl (hey, that last one might be okay)." [thanks to friend]
Even people who don't have time to keep up can sense that things are going down the toilet at an alarming rate.
One of the things they talk about is how people will be convinced and coerced into working for nothing. Religious orgs are good at doing this, too. And GWB recently suggested that instead of laying workers off, corporations allow them to keep their jobs if they will do some unpaid volunteer work out in the world. I found this disturbing. I notice that on GWB's agenda for next year is some faith-based legislation, again. I don't know exactly what they are planning, but we do know it is a goal of theirs to get federal money to religious orgs.
Raven checked in about my rant on school vouchers (12/29, and see his notes), and doesn't seem very concerned about my fear that this will lead to a nation of religiously brainwashed people. OK. But here's what I see: just as soon as they can get a law in place that lets federal dollars flow to churches, those Christian fundamentalist "megachurches" will suddenly explode into a frenzy of Bible school building (paid for by you and me!). Those are the churches that really scare me.
I think we are having it stuck to us every minute of every day. It feels to me like there's a clock ticking, and time is running out. I don't trust that things will be OK if we just let it ride.
