She's Come Undone

I've had this Virgin of Guadeloupe for about 13 years, now. When I moved here from LA, where I bought her at a "Everything's Under $10" store in Hollywood (in my old neighborhood near Griffith Park), the first thing she did was fall over and break into thirty-some pieces. I glued her back together. And have taken pretty good care of her since, but over the last 3 years I've had her outside, letting her take the elements. I've enjoyed seeing her with snow piled up on her head, and have grown flowers near her for her pleasure.

But since I moved to a new place here in Colorado, she's kind of lost it. First it was just a little piece of her halo that cracked and fell off. Then a major chunk, which led to another major chunk. I'm letting her fall apart this time, because it seems an apt metaphor for the way I feel about the world right now. Even the Virgin has had enough. Even she is cracking up. I noticed the new damage yesterday and documented it. I took pictures from every side, even down inside of her, which is all empty...

Though I'm always mad at religion, I am always fascinated by it, too. I collect virgin statues. I'm pretty sure I was a nun in several past lives.

Deduct SUVs? More arrogant Bush administration insanity

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/21/business/21AUTO.html

I've just about had enough. Every day this administration floats some new insane idea. If there is anyone who doesn't believe that this new plan would benefit the members of the president's cabinet and their business interests and families, they are not in their right minds.

I have really just had enough. These people perpetrate daily outrages on all of us. And nobody seems to care!! I went back to work for the first time in months today, and tried to talk to people about some of the political stuff going on. I realized to my dismay that none of them are getting any clear picture of what's going on because they don't have time to. AND I was scaring them. They scared me, too. I do think that most Americans are totally asleep at the wheel.

God help us... I hate being a Chicken Little, but I believe. I believe. I believe that we're being systematically ground down, and that far worse times are coming. Nobody is listening and nobody wants to listen, either. The whole country is in denial.

We're going to lose everything that's been gained in the last hundred years, including labor rights, women's rights, freedom of speech, freedom of access to information, the right to fair trials, the right to resist government searches and seizures, etc. etc. etc. Everything is at risk unless we can wake up more people.

The war protests on Saturday were heartening. But just as disheartening was the chilling big brother coverage. Not one major media outlet was willing to give an estimated figure of how big the TOTAL crowd was in DC. Don't tell me that suppression of information wasn't orchestrated by the White House. I think orders are coming directly from there on what the major cable news outfits can and can't say right now. It borders on shocking that they are still using language like "...going to war in Iraq to bring freedom and democracy." This is pure propaganda. This is 1984 in 2003. Wait until our internet news gets sanitized the same way. Wait until they take away our blogs. Wait until they identify their political enemies via our blogs. Which they have probably already done.

My delusion of anonymity was shattered when I got tech support help from RUL. They could see all the way into my hard disk. So I guess the gov't can reach into my computer and see who I am.

Fiona is really very afraid. Is no one else inwardly panicking like I am? I am nearly coming out of my skin at this point.
