Why Not

That posting below was written just 150 years ago. That is not all that long ago. Think of the barbarism of the times, when one man could sell another, and beat and use him to make money. Racial abuses still exist, as we all know. Think of James Byrd, a modern lynching. And other horrors.

Now my question for today is, if these terrible things could happen so recently, why are we not willing to entertain the possibility that our own government is an evil entity? Why do we continue to trust that these cheaters who have stolen office will not break every rule in the book, use every dirty underhanded trick they can think of to beat and use US and others to make money? I keep projecting doom, and people keep projecting back that I am being too dark, too pessimistic, too naive about conspiracy theories, too outrageous. I think the rest of you don't have very good imaginations. Anything is possible, history bears that out. Why not here, now? Why not?

Think of the Third Reich. Even more recent. The Bush people would do well to think of the Third Reich, and how it ended. It did not last long, its leaders were destroyed and now remembered as one of the most hated regimes in the history of the world. They also were after material spoils. They also killed innocent people and engaged in outrageous witch hunts... They also divided their own country and foisted the Big Lie. This dark storm that's blocking out the sun for us right now started blowing in during the Clinton impeachment, a shameless political witch hunt with the objective of achieving a coup d'etat. They did not succeed and resorted to election fraud with assistance from the Supreme Court, several of whose members betrayed us all.

There are far worse things to come.

Slaves of the World

... Your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass-fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are ... mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation of the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of these United States at this very hour. Go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the Old World, travel through South America, search out every abuse and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival...

This message was brought to you by Frederick Douglass, from his Independence Day address of 1852. He was really talking about what white America was doing from the black slave's point of view. I removed references to that not because I think it's irrelevant but because I wanted to make a parallel. Today America's slaves are of every color and they live in many other nations of the world, as well as here. This is how the rest of the world sees us, and how we will start seeing our own country soon enough (if we don't already), when the oligarchy has ground all of us, white, black, brown or yellow, down to the level of slavery. Unless we want to rise up and throw off this president and his men.
