Getting Religion
Chief Justice Roy Moore of Alabama is getting his, I guess. He must have known what he was doing was wrong. Otherwise, why bring that big ugly gravestone in on the sneak? This is from today's NYT:
In the wee hours of the morning on July 31, 2001, long after the other justices had gone home, Justice Moore and a couple of workmen sneaked the monument into the rotunda of the Alabama Supreme Court. Chief Justice Moore did not ask anyone's permission. But he did not have to because he was the top judge in the state and custodian of the Supreme Court.
He even secretly dug up blueprints of the Supreme Court building to find a secure beam to support the monument.
"Could you imagine if that thing fell through the floor and killed somebody?" he said in an interview at the time.
The monument, inscribed with the biblical commandments and etched with wise words from the nation's founding fathers, all referencing God, was a way to honor the biblical underpinning of America's laws, Justice Moore said. And as time passed, it became like a beacon across the South, attracting religious Christians by the busload.
Well anyway, that's one way of getting religion (into government).
Remember, the Aliens use fundamentalist religion to control Earthlings.
Meanwhile, back on the Ranch (in Crawford) the Bush people are starting to remind me of Wily Coyote, running full speed with their ultimate looting plans since they stole the presidential election, thinking they were going to make it somewhere but ending up instead in midair, off the end of a cliff, over a deep canyon. Nowhere to go but down. Their plans aren't really sustainable because they're going to bring misery to so many people. It's only a matter of time before many more people turn on this administration, if the "jobless recovery" continues and other hardships are imposed, such as energy shortages and price hikes. The administration needs to increase its control over the average citizen before that point is reached so that they will have effective methods of squelching dissent, and a way to keep everyone scared. Congress should repeal the Patriot Act as soon as possible, before it allows our own government to start beating us down. The more people that turn against the current administration, the more defensive and authoritarian they are going to get. And probably ruthless, too. As I said yesterday, look what they just did to another country. Shredded it. They don't care about the consequences, really. If things remain a mess over there, as long as they can get oil pumping and profits flowing it won't matter how many more American soldiers get killed. Could we cut down on our driving or build some trains, or something, for god's sake? What if we elected a new president who would actively institute alternative energy policies for that reason, and to create jobs? I guess it would be a New New Deal. New Deal II. What if we are dreaming to think the next election will be fair?
I'm worried, as usual.
