Founding Fathers

Last night I was surfing around the lefty political blogs and found Bush Watch. There I selected an article by author Dr. Gerry Lower (scroll down to The Inconveniences Of Liberty And Bush's Straussian Ideas. It was so interesting that I followed the link to an ad for a new book he's publishing this fall, called Jefferson's Eyes. Here's the introductory chapter. It's about the historically correct (unspun by Republican revisionists) precepts of Jeffersonian democracy. I think a lot about the concept of democracy these days, and also as you know about how religion is a means to an unrelated end for some power seekers. But I don't know enough about either subject to talk about it convincingly to anyone. This book looks like a good place to start figuring all of this out. So many of our right wing brethren seem to be distorting the ideologies of some of the Founding Fathers. As progressives, it would be good to get clear about these things so that we can fight the lies that are enabled by these underlying false arguments.
The article at Bush Watch sent me to my dictionary twice. I had to look up the words nascent and dialectic. It was fun to exercise my brain. I wonder if this stuff is just too egg-headed for most... If only it could be articulated simply, clearly... I'm hoping that is what this book is like.
I wish that my html skills were better. You may have noticed that I taught myself how to make a link to a word in the text, instead of just a naked URL like I used to. Today I even did one of those and made it italic! However, I still haven't been able to gather the energy to read up on how to link to a specific line or word on a web page, as I would have liked to have done above with my reference to Dr. Lower's article at Bush Watch. I have so many other things to do before I crack that basic html book again.
Cheers
Fiona
