We Can Expect the Same

I was over at truthout.org tonight reading all the stuff. The first few paragraphs of an editorial from Le Monde struck me as being prophetic of what could happen to our country. We haven't had 35 years of wars, but we have had 3 years of economic warfare against us, the citizens of the U.S. The Bush family and their cronies are pillaging just as surely as Hussein ever did. And I think it would be to their advantage if the economy collapses even more. There will be all kinds of cheap labor available to their friends, and they will be able to control people better. In fact I would not be surprised if they are sitting around hoping for another Al Qaeda attack. Why else would they leave us so poorly prepared and protected, with Homeland Security massively underfunded everywhere? Perhaps they are trying to provoke it by being so arrogantly unilateral in Iraq. If there was a war on our soil, I think they would welcome it because for one thing Halliburton could clean up on the cleanup. And they would be able to completely roll back civil liberties and enact Patriot Act II (run for Canada). If that ever happened, there would be a very big chance that they could commit any kind of abuse of power with impunity.

I would bet my eye teeth that they have such an attack planned, as a strategy to cover their asses, should their mistakes, lies and scandals become intolerable to a majority -- in the government. Apparently, the majority of Americans are already at saturation point with that stuff, but there are still many in our government and congress who support the president and what he is doing. Really, the congress is just as bad as the president. They all deserve to be yanked out of the capitol, tarred and feathered. Or worse. I think that Cheney is the evil madman genius behind all of this corruption. I propose that we as a country charter about 792 million buses, ride out to Cheney's house, march around the place and make a lot of noise. The army is so at odds with the White House that they probably wouldn't care to provide Mr. Cheney with any protection.

Iraq is a country ravaged by thirty five years of wars and an appalling dictatorship. Saddam Hussein's regime was not only a military tyranny. It was also a case of grand larceny: the country's resources, notably the fabulous oil income, were pillaged on a huge scale by the dictator's clan.

Saddam Hussein's family absconded with 1-3 billion dollars personal profit at the expense of a population of 24 million people, already otherwise discomfited by thirteen years of sanctions.

Consequently, the so-called Donor Country Conference meeting Thursday October 23 and Friday October 24 in Madrid at United States' instance and under U.N. auspices is at the bedside of a seriously ill patient. Infrastructures in piteous state, oil istallations broken down, trade reduced to very little, anemic agriculture, etc.: the Iraqi population has to be supported by the international community if it is not to sink even further into great misery.

Have I made it perfectly clear yet that I sincerely believe this administration cares nothing about the welfare of this nation and will do anything they want in the name of sheer greed? People who still try to argue that they have their legitimate or innocent reasons for doing what they do are either apologists or extremely naive. I believe this administration intends to decimate our economy and I have been saying that for a long time, now.
