Two Towers
I'm not seeing the movie today; I'm not sure when I will be able to see it. Soon, I hope. But I wanted to share two of the better lines I've read in a movie review, which happened to be about the Two Towers. They appeared in Colin Covert's review on the Star-Tribune.
First, he says that Gollum resembles Steve Buscemi after a long-term crack addiction.
Second, he says that the battle scenes in TT make Braveheart look like My Dinner With Andre.
That's good stuff.
Watching Movies With Linus
I wish my son was old enough to be able to see these movies, but at three and a half, he clearly is not. Someday, though, we'll be able to watch the entire trilogy together, just as we will the Star Wars trilogy. (Yes, I said trilogy. Those other movies never happened. They never happened. And I'm not even sure Return of the Jedi happened, either.) It's going to be something sitting with him as he watches those stories unfold for the first time.
Speaking of that, his grandparents gave him the 20th anniversary edition of E.T. as a Christmas present. He had never seen it...and neither had I. Yeah, yeah, I know. I've heard it a million times. How had I managed to avoid seeing E.T.? I don't really know.
So, there we are, both watching E.T. for the first time. For my part, I enjoyed it, though it sure gets Spielbergy in a lot of parts, especially the end. But that comes with the territory I guess. A fine film. Linus really enjoyed it. He kept saying that aliens are scary and not scary, but he wanted us to sort of confirm that for him; he would alwasy say it in a questioning tone. Yeah, I suppose that's right. Aliens can be both scary and not scary. It must be hard to keep it all straight at that age, but he's working on it.
