Week 13 of the NFL: The Seer Smells Turkey!
Ah, yes. Another year of being subjected to the awfulness that is the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Many of you have probably not had the special joy of watching the 2003 vintage of the Detroit Lions. Take it from the Seer: They Suck. At least the Cowboys are an interesting outfit to watch.
We move into Week 13 with an 86-71 record, good for a 57.8% success rate against the spread. We've had two down weeks here at the Pipeline. It's turnaround time!
Packers @ Lions, Packers by 7.5
The Seer hates this line. Yeah, the Lions suck, but the Packers are always two Ahman Green fumbles away from keeping even the worst teams in the game. But the Seer has seen Detroit play, and the Seer has seen Green Bay play, and the smart money says...
The Seer Sees: Packers cover
Dolphins @ Cowboys, Cowboys by 3
This promises to be a low-scoring affair. The Cowboys' win over the Panthers last week was an eye-opener for the Seer. America's Team is ready to introduce themselves to America once again.
The Seer Sees: Cowboys cover
Bills @ Giants, Giants by 3
Anybody outside of New York care about this game? Anybody inside of New York care about this game? The Giants are hurt by injuries and the newfound reality that they aren't going to the playoffs. Off-season vacations are being planned in that lockerroom this week, whereas in the Bills lockerroom, reservations were made weeks ago.
The Seer Sees: Bills beat the spread
49ers @ Ravens, Ravens by 3
What a miracle comeback by the Ravens last week. Unbelievable. The Niners are better than they showed last week in Green Bay, and they need this game to stay in the race. Baltimore is in a dead heat to stay with the Bengals, and the Seer thinks maybe he has been underestimating the Ravens all year, and overestimating the Niners.
The Seer Sees: Ravens cover
Bengals @ Steelers, Steelers by 3
Personally, the Seer loves that the Bengals are competitive again. We loved those Bengals unis, and we like Marvin Lewis. Pittsburgh desperately needs this game if they are to have any shot of the playoffs, but the Seer just thinks the Bengals have too much offensive talent.
The Seer Sees: Bengals beat the spread
Patriots @ Colts, Colts by 3.5
A mammoth game, with the winner still in the hunt for home field advantage in the playoffs, which would be huge for either team. We still see nothing to lead us to think betting against Bill Belichik is a smart idea.
The Seer Sees: Patriots cover
Cardinals @ Bears, Bears by 4
Don't look now, but Chicago is only 4-7, which isn't great at all, but is a far site better than being the worst team in the league. Arizona's on the road, in the cold, and the Bears have a bit of momentum.
The Seer Sees: Bears cover
Eagles @ Panthers, Panthers by 1.5
Tough game, again with very clear implications for home field in the NFC. The Eagles have overcome so much, while the Panthers have remained steady. The Seer likes McNabb's mobility to keep him out of the sights of the Panthers' outstanding D-line.
The Seer Sees: Eagles beat the spread
Vikings @ Rams, Rams by 6.5
Marc Bulger has been a turnover machine of late, just as Daunte Culpepper has been. The Seer has visions of Marshall Faulk and other assorted Rams getting around the corner of the defense and running wind sprints to the end zone. The fin in the Seer says one thing, but the Seer sees a blowout coming. And if you think this one is bad, wait till the Chiefs, a team that attacks the edge of the D, comes to the fast Metrodome track in December.
The Seer Sees: Rams cover
Falcons @ Texans, Texans by 3
How far away are the Texans from being a dangerous team? If you're the Falcons, they are already dangerous.
The Seer Sees: Texans cover
Saints @ Redskins, Redskins by 1
Theoretically, the Saints are still in contention for the playoffs, but this is the last week we'll be able to say that.
The Seer Sees: Redskins cover
Browns @ Seahawks, Seahawks by 6
Seems like a big spread to us, but we know the Seahawks can score in bunches. Can Cleveland?
The Seer Sees: Seahawks cover
Broncos @ Raiders, Broncos by 3
The Broncos are in real jeopardy of not making the postseason. The Raiders, meanwhile, are still going with Rick Mirer, who hasn't been awful, but who has benefitted from a stripped-down gameplan. If Shanahan is a genius, doesn't he find a way to win a game against a one-dimensional team?
The Seer Sees: Broncos cover
Chiefs @ Chargers, Chiefs by 7
The Chargers' secondary has been getting burned worse than the San Diego countryside of late. The Chiefs will make them pay in a big way.
The Seer Sees: Chiefs cover
Buccaneers @ Jaguars, Buccaneers by 3.5
Maybe the Bucs are responding? Who knows with that team? But we still believe they will rise to the occasion and at least give their title defense some drama before the year is done. Besides, they are better on the road this year anyway.
The Seer Sees: Bucs cover
Titans @ Jets, Titans by 1.5
Why the low line? The Seer doesn't get it. Sure, they are in New York, but this is Air McNair and co. Respect must be paid...
The Seer Sees: Titans cover
Have a great holiday, and drive safely. We'll be in Kansas over the weekend, seeing friends and family and enjoying cold leftover turkey sandwiches.
