Night Out in a Small Town:
Red Wing might have a population of only 16,000 but it does have a little gem of a theatre downtown.
I live just 4 blocks from the Sheldon and last night went down to meet my aunt to see a group called the Parisota Hot Club. I had no idea what I was in for, and the only reason she wanted to go was because her boyfriend was playing in the opening act, a Red Wing based band called Five Swell Guys. I agreed to accompany her more or less out of familial pity
My good heart was rewarded.
Why is it the best experiences in life are always so unexpected? Out of the blue, on a throwaway frigid Friday night, there I was tucked away in a jewel box and sucking in this music like a woman on the edge of dehydration.
Not only were the Five Swell Guys a real delight, but this Parisota Hot Club stunned me with the beauty and happiness of their music. I had forgotten how much I love the one Stephane Grappelli cd I used to listen to (the soundtrack to May Fools) and had never even heard of Django Reinhardt, despite my love of all things gypsy: http://www.riverwalk.org/proglist/showpromo/django.htm
Not being a huge Woody Allen film, I missed Sweet and Lowdown. Got to put that on my Netflixx cue right now.
Any experience out of the ordinary confines of my life, generally inspires me ot bring something back to it. Last night I decided that there needs to be more music in the bungalow kitchen while I cook. I have been going about it in such a nose to the grindstone way, determined to clear all distractions from my path.
I could lighten up a little, be more of a sexy mother; I hear they do exist.
