Blank slate.  I don’t know what to make for dinner tonight.  It happens that way sometimes.  My poor child has been throwing up now for two days straight. I haven’t been to the store and haven’t really wanted to eat anything other than soothing polenta, myself.

Maybe if I just look in my cupboard I’ll be able to whip up something like Halibut  with Yam and Scallop Crust served with phyllo-wrapped Truffled Lentils in Lobster Bisque or Lobster and Smoked Scallops with Leek Risotto and Pear Chips in Vanilla Calvados Beurre Blanc.

Ridiculous food.  Besides, I'd sworn never to make risotto or kill a lobster again.

I don’t want to think about food.  I just want water.  The little boy is sleeping, and I have to go scrub some sickbed sheets.

USA Today has a little decade by decade survey on Oscar-winning favorites.  I picked:

1920's--haven't seen any of the three movies
1930's--You Can't Take It With You
1940's--Mrs. Miniver
1950's--An American in Paris
1960's--The Sound of Music
1970's--Kramer vs. Kramer
1980's--Out of Africa
1990's--Schindler's List

I love Gone with theWind, but You Can't Take It With You has a much sweeter message.  I aspire to be Mrs. Miniver--and run my household as well, all without the help of a full-time cook or Greer Garson's cheekbones.  An American in Paris is pure bliss.  I'm a sap for The Sound of Music.  The 70's were such a macho decade, what else could I pick but Kramer vs. Kramer Out of Africa is one of my favorite movies of all-time, any decade; as its based on one of the best biographies ever written (Judith Thurman's Isak Dinesen:  Life of a Storyteller), Dinesen's own riveting letters,  and has that lush John Barry score & amazing cinematography, plus Streep and Redford.  Schindler's List still haunts me and I haven't seen it since it first came out.
