Today I ran into an organization I never knew existed: Feminists for Life. One's referer links often lead to interesting places. . .
When I had a baby, I remember a friend saying "Well, now that you've had a child certainly you'll be against abortion."
I don't recall having been for abortion in the first place. Other than knowing it was not for me, I honestly never gave it much serious thought one way or the other (I had too much medieval Spanish to slog through) and certainly never expounded any theories on the subject. But, she knew I considered myself a Democrat. Maybe that was why she said what she did.
My answer to her, at the time, born purely out of instinct and the hypersensitivity of new motherhood, was "Are you kidding? Now more than ever, now that I know the love and care a child deserves, I can't bear to think of any child being born who will not be loved."
I haven't read through all the content on the above website, but I am intrigued by the concept and curious to know what they have to say. In studying the history of feminsim, it would certainly seem worthwhile to know what some feminists, who are not afraid of calling themselves feminists (admirable in and of itself these days), have to say on the subject.
