Today I wrestled with the front porch, clearing it of junk and parking bicycles in the garage where they belong.  I set up a table for al fresco dining on one side of the porch and my father gave me two white wooden rocking chairs which look nice on the other side.  Because of all the rain we've had in the month of May, the mosquitoes are going to be awful this year.  I imagine I'll be spending more time on the screened-in porch than in the great outdoors.

And the wood ticks; they're everywhere too.  I took Kipp in for a haircut this afternoon and the hairdresser said "Uh. . .Mom, you wanna come over here and get this thing?"  She held up his hair and handed me a tweezers.  I think that may have been Kipp's first tick and they must be bad this year because we've never had them in our yard before.  I suppose I should check my own head before I go to bed.

I was at Target tonight, picking up some cleaning supplies.  Thoughts of outdoor dining were on my mind, (even if I balk at summer cooking) and all the attractive displays of plastic summer plates & cups were alluring, but I resisted.  I've got three sets of dishes as it is, Corelle's Garden Home for everyday, Wedgwood's Oberon which I should use more often than I do, and heavy ivory stoneware I never use because it is so cumbersome.  In fact, I'm going to get rid of it.

So, if I really think I need yet another set of dishes, just to use on the porch, maybe I should pull out the pie tins and we can pretend we are pioneers.
