In the wake of the election, I haven't posted at all yet. Not because I'm too depressed.  I woke up with the usual feeling of simply having to redouble my efforts--which still wouldn't approach the efforts exerted by so many fine people. 

No, the reason I haven't been posting is that I've been in the thrall of an unlikely pair of writers:  David Brooks and Pearl S. Buck, both of whom have illuminating things to say about the state of our country (and this is pretty good for Buck, since she's been dead since 1973.)

I'm still processing their words and won't blog prematurely.
